Description

In this review post, we’re going to be discussing the Snark SN-10S Pedal Tuner, including an overview of its unique features.

Product Description

The SN-10S is a powerful pedal. Its die-cast metal casing appears to be tough enough to withstand the rigors of heavy gigging. True bypass switching, a calibration range of 415-466 Hz, a very large and brilliant LED readout, and 9V DC in and out plugs for powering not only the pedal but other pedals in the signal chain are the only features. This can also be powered by a 9V battery if you left your power supply at home or at the previous gig.

The SN-10S compensates for a lack of multiple tuning modes with exceptional pitch accuracy, especially for such a low-cost tuner. The rapid and responsive LED readout is smooth-scrolling and easy to read. As I modified the pitch of the strings, the indication moved smoothly and precisely through the red flat and yellow sharp indicators, just like with the company’s clip-on tuners, which have quickly become a favorite of many serious players. The bright display is also fully readable in the glare of intense sunlight, which is a major worry if you spend most of your time performing on outdoor stages throughout the summer and spring months.

The Snark is far more sensitive than its clip-on cousin, which says a lot. This sensitivity is especially noticeable on basses and baritone guitars, where low notes and overtones can confound less sensitive and responsive tuners.

Our Verdict

Pedal tuners are one of the most important pieces of equipment a guitarist can get. And, at around $50, the Snark makes it difficult to rationalize deferring the purchase in lieu of that new fuzz you’ve been eyeing. The SN-10S is really basic, but for many gamers, that will be a significant bonus. Furthermore, the tuning accuracy is comparable to pedals costing more than twice as much. If you haven’t yet made the wise investment in a pedal tuner, the SN-10S offers little reason to do so.
